  7.     "It's pretty sad when a person has to lose weight to play
  8. Babe Ruth," says John Goodman, the hefty actor best known as
  9. Roseanne Barr's huggable TV husband. Goodman worked off 60 lbs.,
  10. spent five months learning to bat and throw left-handed, and
  11. then sat through as many as two hours of makeup a day to
  12. portray the legendary slugger during a 20-year period. The Babe,
  13. due next year, is the actor's first dramatic starring film
  14. role, and word from the set of the just wrapped movie was that
  15. Goodman's transformation into the Bambino was positively
  16. Ruthian. "The Babe lived life full out," says Goodman.
  17. "Everything he did was big."
